Demand for Business Professionals is Growing
As market complexity increases, corporate America has come under increasing pressure to keep up. More and more companies are turning to the aide of business consultants and experienced business managers in order to keep pace with the changing market. Business professionals provide analysis of, and suggestions on how to improve profits, productivity, and organizational structure. A quickly expanding upstart company that needs to improve its inventory control and expenses, for example, may hire a consultant who specializes in inventory management. Or a larger company may hire a consultant to help streamline corporate organization and consolidate positions that become obsolete or redundant as a result of a merger or acquisition. As electronic commerce and information technology have become more common, companies are continually seeking methods for staying competitive in the new electronic marketplace, thus opening many new opportunities for business professionals and business analysts.

Business professionals come in many different shapes and sizes and can specialize any many different business subsets. The following are just a few popular business specialties.

Financial Managers
In nearly every organization there is a financial manager who supervises investment activities, manages the production of financial reports, and directs cash management policies. Because computers handle much of the record keeping and data organization, financial managers use more of their time creating and implementing plans to accomplish their organization’s goals.

Various titles under the heading financial manager include: treasurer, controller, cash manager, and credit manager. All these positions require some type of degree in business administration, each with its own specific preparatory coursework. A controller oversees the production of financial reports such as income statements, balance sheets, summaries of future earning potential and expenses, all of which are used to predict an organizations financial situation. In addition, controllers are responsible for creating reports requested by regulatory authorities. Thus controllers typically supervise budget, accounting, and audit departments.

Business Managers
Corporations and organizations in both the public and private sectors are directed by MBA holding general managers. Their responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, creating policies, and allocating material and human resources. However their responsibilities are too broad and general to fit into one administrative category. There are some organizations in which the responsibilities of the general manager mirror those of the chief executive officer.

CIO and CFO
The duties of the chief information officer included oversight of all technological aspects of the organization. More and more they play a strategic role at the executive level in implementing the organization’s business plan, thus administrative knowledge of hiring, budgeting, and supervision become essential. Besides proposing budgets and making decisions on employee training and material acquisition, CIO’s oversee the hiring and assigning of information technology personnel, computer specialists, and support technicians. They also direct and review employees, and define administrative strategies and procedures. The CIO is ultimately responsible for adding to the organizations competitive edge by efficiently utilizing information technology.

An organizations financial objectives and budgets are overseen by the chief financial officer. CFO’s direct and manage investments, create and implement cash management strategies, coordinate capital-raising efforts, and manage acquisitions and mergers.

There are many divisions in the business field including but not limited to: accounting, advertising, information technology management, market research coordination, marketing, public relations, sales management, promotion, health service management, pricing, product development, and human resources.

Business Marketing Managers
With the help of market research and product development managers, MBA marketing managers create the company’s specific marketing strategy. They are responsible understanding the supply and demand for their product for discovering new possible markets on the wholesale and retail level, and in the public and private sectors. The marketing manager’s ultimate goal is balancing customer satisfaction with strategic pricing that increases the profitability and market share of the company. With the help of product and sales managers, marketing managers observe market activity to determine the need for new products and services and to ensure current product competitiveness. In order to increase demand for products and services, Marketing managers also team up with advertising personnel to implement promotional strategies.
