If you have already studied and are looking to study further, specifically in the business field – you should consider getting a postgraduate diploma in business administration.

It’s important to remember that when you are doing a postgraduate diploma, you can end up saving a lot of money compared to doing a Master’s degree. Also, once you have your postgraduate diploma, it can be a lot easier to make the conversion and add a few more courses in to get a Master’s. Many programs offer you the option to ‘upgrade’ your diploma into a full Master’s degree.

What Will I Study?

With your postgraduate diploma in business administration you can learn skills that may help you in the business world. These will typically include courses in:

  • Management theories
  • Economics
  • Organizational behavior
  • Ethics
  • Innovation
  • Human Resources strategy
  • Entrepreneurship

Each diploma will offer slightly different courses for you, so you could find that there are other things you may study, or things from this list that you won’t study. Find a school with a good reputation and move forward from there.

How Long Will it Take?

This depends on the program you join. Most (if not all) of these diplomas are done on a part-time basis, so they can run for just under a year or even a little shorter. You may have to spend some time off work to do your courses, but these are always kept to a minimum.

What Kind of Career Options Will I Have?

As these courses are generally centered on business management, it is difficult to say exactly what field you will go into. As a management student and then a business professional, you can find yourself working in any number of industries. All businesses need management and all businesses need hardworking go-getters just like you. The good thing about that is that you can then decide which type of business you are interested and pursue a career there, if it appeals to you.

How Much Will I Make?

This is very difficult to say. It all depends on your level of experience and the company for which you are working. As a mid level manager, where you would probably find yourself after this diploma, you can make some good money. As a straight business administrator you can expect to earn between $25,000 and $75,000, but with a management position that will jump up quickly.
