Jones International University (JIU) is the first exclusively online university. JIU was founded in 1993 by the school’s current chancellor, Glenn R. Jones, who has spent his life trying to find ways for education to be accessible to everyone. Before founding JIU, Jones started a cable television network in 1987 called Mind Extension University™ that offered courses from more than 30 universities and colleges.
The Higher Learning Commission accredited JIU in 1999, making it the first completely online university to receive accreditation.
